This really annoys me about some sceptics.....

I just finished reading through a sceptical piece about Aliens and UFOs over at sillybelief.com, a NZ based site(Which I enjoyed by the way- despite it being riddled with straw men !) I found their scientific viewpoint rather ignorant and wanted to point out an error in the presentation of their "scientific reasons" for why Aliens could not visit us.

I am just sticking to one of the scientific reasons presented.

Reason (The most common and uninformed reason)

"The astronomical distances that must be covered by aliens to reach earth. The nearest star to the earth — Proxima Centauri — is 4.3 light years away. That's 40,678,000,000,000 kilometres, or roughly one hundred million times further away than the moon. Would you pay for the fuel? And there's nothing to suggest that there is even a planet around our nearest neighbour, let alone life on it, let alone intelligent life, let alone intelligent life that has the desire and technology to pay us a visit. So any alien would most likely be travelling much greater distances than even this mind-boggling distance. "

They offer Einsteins Special theory of relativity as the reason why traversing these distances is not possible.....

The first thing that comes to mind is...... that this person has limited understanding of Einsteins work, or they would simply not make such uninformed statements.

I'm not here to give you an introductory lesson to General relativity(although I could do better than the folks over at sillybelief.com !) but if your going to use Science to support your claims, then get it right !

It is precisely because of work like Einsteins GR and current derivatives that aliens could have the means to get here. (Einsteins work opened the door for zero time dimensions etc-Even though he didn't like it he had to accept the non locality of the universe/multiverse as proven by Bells theorem and it's implications)

I wish people would dig a little deeper before giving a topic the bash and update their understanding of modern physics.

Yes I believe we are being visited by other intelligent beings
and yes I love and have a deep understanding of physics which does not change this.
